I have been busy lately, working on my corset technique. I have a few samples to show now. Most of the images are over at the photo gallery, but some teasers (and construction notes) can be found if you continue reading... First, we have my gold corset. It is based on the "standard" Simplicity pattern, although I added a lining and made a few other changes along the way. All in all, it went together fairly easily. I have several construction photographs, which people might find useful. When I have time, I will write a more detailed article about the steps I went through, and also what detours I took.
Second,
we have my green corset. This is also based on the same Simplicity
pattern, and was actually the first corset I tried to put together. I
didn't finish it until later, as I realized pretty quickly that my math
had been wrong and it was going to be way too large for me. It is
available for sale (as of today) if anyone is interested. More detailed
specifications are available, but the basics are:
- waist - 38"
- deepest bust - 50"
- widest hip - 42"
Those measurements are all completely closed. It is not appropriate for tightlacing.
Third,
we have my blue underbust. For this, I drafted my own pattern based on
several instructions found online. Again, I have many of the steps
involved documented (including a photograph of my math), but I will
probably do a complete written article at some point in the future.
My
biggest problem right now seems to be getting the breast area small
enough for me without making the waist too tight. I had an epiphany
this afternoon, and I think I finally have it figured out. My next two
attempts will be in velvet and satin (respectively) so we will see if I
am successful.
